How to Play The er, ir, ur Game, and Why (Video)

Whether you have a struggling reader at home or a strong reader, can we really blame anyone for confusing letter combinations that sound exactly the same?


How do you spell perfect?  Is it ur?  Is it ir?


How is a new young reader supposed to know this?


If your child has already mastered phonemic awareness, and already has strong letter recognition, then let’s have some fun improving word building skills, also known as “word attack” skills.


When kids can confidently build words like er, ir, ur words, their confidence in reading and spelling improves, too.
