The children’s book On My Way to a Happy Life is Deepak Chopra ‘s way of sharing spiritual principles with the younger generation. I recently dusted off my old copy of Chopra’s best seller, The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success. It made me wonder what childhood struggles I might have averted had I understood the power I had in my own life. One of my favorites, the law of least effort, surely would have helped me accept even the most mortifying moments as gifts in disguise. You know the kind, where you’re the only one in the room not laughing because all fingers are pointing at you.
Written by Deepak Chopra with Kristina Tracy, On My Way to a Happy Life simplifies The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success. Parents who may wish they’d grown up with this knowledge all along can now easily share these powerful lessons with their own children.
You may already be teaching your children about the gift of giving and receiving, which is one universal principle presented in this book. How often, though, do the topics of karma or acceptance come up for discussion? These empowering ideas are all worth reinforcing as children grow and try to make sense of the world. On My Way to a Happy Life makes that easy for us to do.
I will confess one thing. I almost didn’t buy this book because of the title. I know, I know, I’m arguing semantics here, but “on my way” suggest to me some future existence. Isn’t Zen Buddhism all about living in this moment? Can’t I have a happy life right now?
Yeah, I’m nitpicky like that.
Once I bought and read On My Way to a Happy Life I didn’t think twice about the title. The colorful, engaging illustrations by Rosemary Woods and the simple, easy to understand verse clearly offer a sense of peace and possibility the very moment we read it. It may be the kind of book you hope your child chooses again and again, as much for your spiritual growth as theirs.
